[PRO] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 124m | 38 levels

Now just imagine that the Adelaide Casino occupied the Samuel Way building and the Hilton site... That planned laneway between the Market Arcade and these buildings would be a hive of activity all day long; day trade from the Markets, night trade from the Casino. Missed opportunity to have the Hosp...

[PRO] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 124m | 38 levels

Thanks for sharing Ben. It's probably be the biggest development in the city since the Myer Centre, so definitely exciting. And hopefully soon underway. Some initial thoughts: The podium level public open space is a real win. Imagine if this open space extended across the Central Market proper and M...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

It bothers me that extending the line wasn't factored into the current redevelopment, likely because of indecision about the Outer Harbor branch generally.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

Speaking of lost underground spaces, did anything interesting use to be in the basement of Station Arcade?

The council were chopping down the mature plane trees in front of this site this morning  If it's for access, that's crazy! This site is huge, surely they could have arranged egress to keep the trees. Probably planned all along, the renders feature no trees on the street in front of it. I su...

This is the site next to the apartment building that just went up on Pirie Street?
Yeah, the old Red Cross building.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

Nando's has closed on Hindley Street.

Sushi Hub is opening a second mall shopfront where the convenience store used to be next to Charlesworth Nuts.

Melbourne skate shop Fast Times has opened on Gawler Place (south).

That's good for Haigh's. It was always oddly positioned on the interior, and it's nice for the Market to have a legacy brand facing the street.

Re: News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects

I think it's time to close Bank Street to cars. It's feeling a bit dingy. I don't know whether the council has cut cleaning shifts, but the entire city has been rather dingy for the last few months. There's far more litter about than usual, both because there's not enough bins (in the right places)...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

Nice of the Lord Mayor to admit the lobbying, but it's a bit pathetic to blame the administration for minimal consultation rather than the elected members who've obstructed this every step of the way. It'd be nicer for her to face down the naysayers and actually show some leadership on the issue, as...

Read the plan. There's a 16-car stacker for 12 dwellings.

It looks fine, though I would have liked to see the concrete graphic continue in banding at the top and the balconies repeat the timber-look of the lower levels. It'd be good to see more happening down at Glenelg.

[U/C] Re: SkyCity Adelaide Casino Expansion | 55m | 12 Levels | Hotel

I'm not sold on the paving. It's in that weird middle ground where it's trying to reference the Festival Centre geometry, but it's neither adhering to it close enough nor clearly differentiating itself (organic hexagon pattern vs strictly geometric octagon pattern). I tend to agree and worry how it...

Great photos Norman! We've got our first peak at the paving system/design language that will continue through the whole plaza: https://ch3302files.storage.live.com/y4mQs0dwIx8EGIpmapSwzFHGJRe7awYeZ2Tg5U6_LneRnpVA67bhTmORj1iS0nr-19LPLoopLNjwAhOYm0eYFrAwrfvvdWF6TR9aoxe6ImZSglN4HTwYENl0e4VoGKyX_smBGzvn...
