[U/C] Re: Oaklands Crossing | $174m

This whole upgrade is BS, it doesn't extend or upgrade PT at all, it's merely to satisfy motorists. The previous station was not even old and with some foresight, I agree with previous poster, they at least could reuse some materials for other station upgrades, but then that doesn't help our poor m...

Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

I refuse to give my money to NewsCorpse so can't read it, but there's a headline today that I believe indicates $20 million has finally been allocated to deliver the Whitmore Square masterplan. I don’t support this at all. Spending that kind of money on Whitmore Sq is a waste. If there is $20M on t...

Adelaide is top contender, says Games chief Reece Homfray, 17 April 2019, The Advertiser COMMONWEALTH Games Australia boss Craig Phillips says Adelaide makes the most compelling case as a host city in the Commonwealth, and will engage in talks with the State Government today. Mr Phillips met busine...

Re: News & Discussion : New Restaurants, Bars & Night Clubs

Insieme Restaurant and Cos closed permanently this week, and Rigoni's has gone into administration. But in good news, the long vacant former Caos Cafe on Hindley will reopen in coming months as 'Stem' bar/tapas.

Re: News & Developments: Prospect

In addition to the aesthetic and psychological improvements others mention, I think the effectiveness of the recent irrigation trial at Adelaide Airport in reducing the urban heat island adds extra weight to the argument to green the public realm. When we're pushing 47 degrees, the extra couple degr...

Re: SA Economy

Now they think by opening the flood gates and bringing in 50,000 more foreigners from the third world it will fix things. We have a skills-based and (rightly) non-discriminatory permanent migration system. Do you think we should be barring people based on where they were born (and 'third world' is ...

I've noticed a lot of newer buildings dispense with ground in favour of level 1. I wish we'd just adopt one or the other.

[PRO] Re: 266 - 270 Pulteney Street | ~40m | 11 Levels | Mixed Us

This is pretty lacklustre, looks more like a commercial building in an industrial district than mixed use/hotel. But it's not the most proficient rendering, so hopefully it's not quite as boring as it looks. Also attracted one of the more lengthy comments I've read from the gov architect, to which t...

Re: The Federal Politics Thread

Did I hear Pauline Hanson correctly on the radio this morning that she wants the Federal Government to pay for a coal-fired power station in SA to burn SA coal and run the desalination plant at full power to save the Murray River water for irrigation? I don't think she was pressed on where in the s...

Re: The Federal Politics Thread

Federal Labor will seek to extend for another 5 years the stay of Adelaide Zoo's pandas, who are due to return to China this year. The man waiting to be taking out with the trash, ScumMo, thought it was clever to slam the opposition for making the proposal while Queensland recovers from floods even...

Few more renders to boot:

As others have said, I like the design. The latticework façade is stunning. But I think an equally great design could have been achieved that acknowledges the heritage on site.

[PRO] Re: 51 Pirie Street | 114m | 28 Levels | Hotel

Also for a hotel that big, I would hope they don't want to have car access from Pirie Street. I assume vehicle access/parking would be from the carpark to the rear? The arrangements for VIP porte-cochère, kerbside pickup/dropoff and service/carpark access are all intended for Gawler Plc (leading to...

[PRO] Re: 51 Pirie Street | 114m | 28 Levels | Hotel

Unless they are planning something exceptional on the street level it would be a shame to see this go. The design is good, and that's why the planners and gov architect are prepared to acquiesce to the demolition. However, I don't accept that they couldn't have achieved good results by retaining th...

Wait, so they want to demolish the heritage building now? It's only locally listed but that's still pretty disappointing considering its aesthetic contribution to city.

Also, I can find the application but documentation on SCAP - do you have the file slenderman?
