[APP] Re: Adelaide Oval Hotel

I think the food and beverage prices are a legitimate news angle, as they do matter to people and factor into their decision to attend the oval. However, this ABC article reveals a bit more of the double taking by SMA/SANFL/SACA: Adelaide Oval's food and drink prices set to rise as authority looks t...

[COM] Re: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

The other levels of government should be in on this too (as they should for all the parklands really). I think this is key, really. The parklands shouldn't be treated as the city council's sole responsibility as though they were some mere suburban park. They're the largest open space in metropolita...

Re: Commonwealth Games in Adelaide

The Cross Road Motorway should also be included in the pre-games master plan. Not to mention level crossing upgrades on the other train lines That route is about freight not people movement, and so is completely separate to Games requirements. I agree that the motorway's focus is on freight movemen...

Bearing in mind everything remains conjecture, this was in today's 'Tiser: Games boss disputes study Reece Homfray, 16 September 2019, The Advertiser AUSTRALIA’S Commonwealth Games boss says he’s staggered by suggestions it would cost the State Government $3.5 billion to bring the event to Adelaide ...

Re: Commonwealth Games in Adelaide

I’d say the roadworks for the North-South motorway need to be finished between T2T and Anzac Highway (the crossing points between the airport and the city/games venues) before the games, too. I wouldn't count the cost of building that as part of the cost of hosting the games, either. The Cross Road...

Perhaps I'm misremembering, but I seem to recall Abiad as one of the councillors who were less than supportive of the project at the time. Either way, glad it's back on the agenda, even if still years away and likely to cost much more to fully achieve the masterplan than is being mooted below: Abiad...

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

Dr Marten's are advertising for staff for a Rundle Mall store. Unsure if that means a standalone or if they'll operate a concession within one of the department stores. I wonder where they'd end up if a standalone -- maybe the temporary Strandbags spot? Also, Hype DC decals went up on the old Strand...

Re: Commonwealth Games in Adelaide

I sincerely hope the folly of a railyards stadium isn't the factor making the bid uneconomic. There are surely other options that aren't nearly as expensively engineered. And I have to say, I think there's a small reputation cost to not proceeding -- it'll seem like yet another pissant decision from...

This was the article in today's Mail : SA has to be the winner in race to bid for the Games ADELAIDE has had a chequered history when it comes to bids for the Commonwealth Games. [U/C] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

These car-park plans just go to show how little the public has had access to the overall plans for this redevelopment. Based on the renders released a few years ago, I was of the impression that the plaza would level up with KWS, but it now looks as though you will have to climb a flight of stairs ...

Revised plans being assessed by the DAC for the carpark. Sound like there are other revised plans for the tower and retail but are a separate application which they have mentioned is a concern they are not concurrently being assessed. https://www.saplanningcommission.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_fil...

Extension of 3 - 5 levels of this office building opposite the RAh is expected to be approved by the ACC next week.
Looks ok, but I'm still wishing that the government will back down from building the new WCH on parklands and take over this whole site.

Did anyone see the alternate JPE design? I don't mind the approved plan, but I reckon the alternative would have looked great.

I think that would have been pushing the aesthetic too modern for Unley Road.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

International passenger numbers have quadrupled over the past 20 years and are currently growing at about 7% annually. That's hardly a disgrace.
