The angle of the initial renders really exaggerated the presence of the brick facade. From other angles it has basically no presence at all. Disappointing from a street level aesthetic pov.

Woods Baggot have done some great developments around the city, right? I have a little more hope in this turning out well.
Depends how far you cast the net. WB is from Adelaide. Technically, buildings like the Bonython Hall and St Peters Cathedral are from them (or their founding partners).

[U/C] Re: Her Majesty’s Theatre Expansion

^^ Adelaide had a lot of small theatres throughout the city. Not all of them were killed off by modernism per se, but rather were re-purposed as cinemas. Their second/final death occurred when they could no longer survive as cinemas (and were repurposed as things like supermarkets). Many were lost b...

[U/C] Re: Renaissance Arcade | 132m | 40 Levels | Realm Apartments

I slightly prefer the older design because the new one has a bit too much vertical symmetry for my taste. It's still the pick of the 100m+ developments in Adelaide. Also a relief that the revised materials wasn't for cost cutting. Do you honestly believe the developer would come out and say they ar...

This had such potential too Sent from my SM-J730G using Tapatalk It never had potential. It's nothing but a whole city block of dull glass boxes. The only consideration has been maximum lettable area. Sell the idea with a gloosy render, then ship in the cheapest glass you can find. Take photos at a...

The top 2 floors were always office.

I can't recall how many floors the store was.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

Just out of curiosity, what was this building originally built for? It was built for David Jones in 1960-something. There are a couple of pictures back on this thread: http://www.sensational-adelaide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2810&start=15 In hindsight, they should've never moved. The current D...

Hold your horses fellas. You need to have more of the facade for it to have some continuity in order to truly judge. It may look bad now, but it could yet turn out a total catastrophe.

They built 400KWS, so they're at least capable of not building urgent crap.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

For most it all comes down to price. When I fly from Adelaide to central Europe, I can get a Qatar fare for close to 1k or a Qantas/Emirates usually for 1900-2700. Turkish Airways can come in even cheaper (but I won't go that far to save 50 bucks). No airline with a SE Asian stopover is even in the...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

Curious why you think Singapore is a much better stopover? I don't necessarily disagree, but I don’t think the difference is really substantial (unless you talk about stopovers in terms of multi-day leave the airport ones) Not the right place to discuss this as we'll go off track. In short I mean a...

[U/C] Re: Adelaidean | 11 Frome Street | 135m | 37 Levels | Mixed Use | New tallest

You are right to suggest that what goes on above street level is just as important as at street level, but that statement has little correlation to the height of the building other than maybe overshadowing. I think a lot of people tend to overemphasize the importance of the "skyline". Life does not...
