[PRO] Re: 274 North Terrace 52m | 16 Levels | Hotel

You have to wonder at the stupidity of the neighbouring owner. For the expense of a 7m wide 460 sqm block they could have turned their own huge parcel into a corner block worth a goldmine. Now they're hemmed in by the same sort of concrete wall that Ivan Milat was staring at for 20 years. You've wo...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)

It's unfortunate but these elms and the ones in Prince Albert Garden (in front of Government House) all appear to be verging senescence. I'm not sure they'd survive too many more of our increasingly hot summers. If there's a chance they'll need replacing within 10 years, I think it's fair for them ...

[VIS] Re: Central Market

They would want to be very very careful with what they do. The central market charm might be lost for good if they try and make it what it isn't. Wholeheartedly agree with this. I said this as someone who lived in Adelaide and frequented the Central Markets, and I say this even more now that I live...

[U/C] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

It's an ok building for somewhere else, but in this location it has zero response to its location. I see it as pretty analogous to the Brisbane Square building, which I don't much rate, but at least respect the attempt they've made to do something interesting at plaza level. It seems barely conside...

https://www.festivalsquare.com.au/img/pages/home/xl.jpg I think this image is new; haven't seen it before. From: https://www.festivalsquare.com.au/ This wouldn't be awful in other pockets of the city, the old bus terminal on Grote/Franklin Street(s) for example, but in this location it just looks c...

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

Just got my first look at the new Foodland. Not impressed at all that the building still has signs from the early 90s saying "Citi Centre Arcade", and on the entrance doors the signs are new and read "Rundle Square". It's just lazy. As for actual supermarket, not too bad and will serve a valuable r...

[U/C] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

I've never been convinced that Walker's proposal was ever going to do anything beneficial for the area; hell, the casino development is more likely to pull people in. The first office tower is out of scale for the area, and there has been no comment or guarantee that it will have a major tenant by t...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

It's because the state Liberals have used the State Bank collapse (almost 30 years ago) to bring about fear in SA voters over our state debt, despite there being a very big difference between good vs. bad debt. Hell, isn't Lucas himself raising the the sate's debt ceiling despite spending how many ...

Yes it was a pity Apollo Square was never built in 1970 .It would have been Adelaide's first 40 story office building (taller then any of the current proposed tall buildings). it was to be located at 60 king William st where that fake old building is at the entrance to city cross. Renders? Never he...

Yeah, that's the one! I'm not entirely sure when it was bulldozed but like you said, somewhere around the 50s/60s. Here's a shot of the whole building...

Will be a fantastic day when the wrecking ball meets the current POS building.
And to think the current POS building replaced one of Adelaide's most beautiful bank buildings, like you I'll be glad to this this go.

Nova shoes on the corner of Mall & Twin has either closed or closed for renovations. No sign of renovation yet at the Strandbags site for nearly 2 weeks. Looked like they had just finished retiling the place when I went past yesterday, wasn't there a council development submission a couple of years...

It was said to be going at Lot 14 but whether that is still the case I don't know. there hasn't been much released recently about the hotel component. https://indaily.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Screen-Shot-2016-11-17-at-11.14.33-am.png Marriot at Lot 14 was a Labor proposal, this building wi...

[U/C] Re: 11 Frome Street | 135m | 37 Levels | Crowne Plaza / Adelaidean | New tallest

I was in Adelaide this past couple of days and had the chance to see this in person, as someone who has been highly critical of the final product, photos don't do it justice, it does look better in person. That said, the closer you get to the building, the more the glass disappoints. But from afar i...
