[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

This feels like a targeted leak to either identify a serial leaker within the LNP, and / or (and possibly more likely) make Koutsantonis look like an idiot. It is completely at odds with the most recent high level scoping study, which mentioned either trench the whole way or tunnel from the river to...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Personally I think a trench through the inner west (the 5031 postcode at least) is unlikely. It would wipe out hundreds of 100+ year old houses and decimate the character of the area. Imagine the opposition if a similar plan was suggested near Parkside, Norwood, or North Adelaide (which is also dire...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

A double-decker cut & cover tunnel might work, but I expect will still require the removal of at least one side of houses & businesses along South Road. Any other cut & cover or trench model would likely involve at least both sides along South Road, and all the noise that would create among local re...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

Maybe in the longer term a bus-only tunnel underneath Currie and Greenfell streets would work. I think there is a similar concept in Seattle. Here it could link up with the Obahn tunnel that emerges near East Terrace, and carry people across the CBD with stops near Rundle Street, KWS for tram connec...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

I made the mistake of heading north from Brickworks towards Regency Road on the NSM this morning. What an [expletive] disaster. Its like they've gone out of their way to be as disruptive as possible with the construction, with multiple mergers into single lane heading north creating huge delays, all...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

I understand the reasoning for streamlining SDB, but the Bagot / Brooker intersection has the council chambers, library, playground and Cowandilla school on one side, and Hilton Plaza woolies on the other. Loads of people cross that intersection daily, it’s not really one that can be cut in half wit...

In regards to the politics of the announcements, remember many on the western side of South Road already have it in for the current government after re-zoning the AHS / ABHS zones last year. We live in hope an announcement on the remainder of the project is imminent. Projects like this will always b...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

Emirates were hurting on all flights to Australia even before the virus, after qantas largely pulled the pin on their code sharing agreement, and re-routed the kangaroo route back via Changi instead. If Emirates can’t pull enough through traffic out of Adelaide to transit through Dubai they were alw...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

I don’t think many people are calling for a tunnel the full remaining 11km stretch. The inner west section from the river to Anzac highway is a different story, loads of character houses and a very vocal action group that would be immediately mobilised if there is mass disruption. Worst case a cut &...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

The trench is already lowered by the time it hits Grange Road heading North. So southbound, lowering into a tunnel shouldn't be a big deal from Hindmarsh through to Brickworks. The River Torrens underneath South Road clearance is maybe only 10m, so by no means insurmountable. Even if the tunnel roof...

Posted below from Mandy Doolan, a local Real Estate agent and one of the leaders of the South Road Inner West action group, from the Facebook group on Friday: James Franzon (of Hilton Hotel), and myself, attended a North South Corridor industry meeting with Stephen Knoll on the 19th of May. We would...

Major thoroughfare clearways, similar to the question of extended Sunday trading hours, are an issue that has been worked through in cities all over the world, including our own Sydney and Melbourne, yet perpetually remain in the “too hard” basket in Adelaide.

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

Slightly off-topic, but was it ever considered to alternate traffic flows so that Marion Road was north-only and South Road was south-only (as its name would suggest) to assist with overall traffic movement? It seems a massive liberty in Adelaide that almost every road must be two-directional, and e...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

People in the inner west just want something done, and are prepared to put up with construction knowing any end result will be better than the current situation. The preference is obviously for a tunnel. I say this as someone that lives just off South Road at Mile End.

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

The main point is that even for an elevated road, the section through Thebarton and Mile End is currently only two lanes each direction, so there is no room to put an elevated road unless entire strips of houses and business on one or both sides of the road are wiped out. By the time compulsory acqu...
