Name a single public transport project that got delivered in the 1970s anywhere in the world.
  • Brisbane’s Merivale Bridge opened in 1978 connecting the Beenleigh line across the river from South Brisbane to Roma Street.
  • Melbourne’s City Loop began construction in 1971.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I've got a question and I can't seem to see it being asked on the forum before so here I am. Footy Park was opened at West Lakes in 1974. The Hendon branch line was still running, albeit infrequently for factory workers, up until 1980 at which point it was demolished and West Lakes Boulevard (WLB) e...

[PRO] Re: [PRO] Re: Ovingham Level Crossing Removal | $231m

The diesel fleet has been refurbished over the past few years including re-engining about 2 years ago for life extension. The main problem has been no spare diesel railcars to increase peak capacity on the Gawler line. If the Gawler electrification had happened before the Jumbos were retired in 201...

I love how the paving along Station Road evokes railway tracks. That’s a nice touch

[PRO] Re: Ovingham Level Crossing Removal | $231m

Could it be that the absence of a major rebuild plan for Ovingham be due to the location of the station on a curved section of track, making compliance with modern rail construction standards which preclude curved platforms? The curve at Ovingham is surely very minor, at least compared to a station...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Article about the ARS refresh. Entrances getting an overhaul. https://renewalsa.sa.gov.au/news/a-new-old-fashioned-welcome-for-adelaides-train-goers/ Love the idea of the new doors! It’s always the little details and embellishments like this that give heritage restorations that little extra somethi...

Re: News & Discussion: Regional Transport

John Gerber, the owner of Chateau Tanunda is attempting, once again, to re-launch a plan to bring back the Wine Train to run from Gawler to Tanunda with the ultimate aim of ARS to Tanunda in the longer term. As most already know, Tanunda is now end of the line since the recent severing of it on the...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Anyone would think it might be hard or something - it couldn't be done under a Labor government, and might not get done in the first term of a Liberal one either! When Labor left office they already had the Northern Connector and Darlington Upgrade well underway, Torrens to Torrens was nearing comp...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Bridge spans are in place (courtesy of Adelaide Now) Time to start counting down! This section is going to be finished this year and the government will still be scratching their heads over the final Torrens to Darlington section, the only section that they've needed to design and build themselves.

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Interesting that they updated the status map for the Northern Connector to "Operational since March 2020" but T2T is still "Currently under construction" despite having finished 2 years before they would've updated the Northern Connector field. Also, T2D is coloured blue for completed despite still ...

[PRO] Re: Hove Level Crossing Removal | $171m

If they elevated the rail to Jetty Road they would also need to lift Brighton Station, which would be more complex due to its layout. It would also increase the ongoing maintenance costs for the elevated station. I understand the layout at Brighton was previously used for occasional peak services, ...

[PRO] Re: Hove Level Crossing Removal | $171m

The guy mentions somewhere in the video where the bridge would start from and explicitly says they’re leaving Jetty Road as it is. Near the end the presenter says: Whether it be a rail over or rail under solution we would not be touching the Jetty Road; that would remain as it is at-grade and any s...

Has anyone watched this video before? It has been unlisted on DIT's Youtube channel for two weeks already, and shows that they favour the rail over option. https://youtu.be/PYJ4gLEteGs Since it’s an unlisted video I’m gonna go with no, we haven’t see it before  Nice find though, where did you ...

Re: News & Discussion: Roads & Traffic

Put in bus lanes then. Since the freeway is grade separated, we may as well make it an O-Bahn track. This idea has been discussed before: https://www.sensational-adelaide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6340 It's actually a really good idea. According to one source (which I can't verify, but sounds ...

[PRO] Re: Ovingham Level Crossing Removal | $231m

Don't worry, they'll eventually close the whole Gawler line, again but this time even longer, rip down near new infrastructure to build a new station or three. It's the SA way. Exactly what happened with Oaklands. Two separate chances to grade separate the station, first with the 2008 rebuild and a...
