[PRO] Re: New Womens and Childrens Hospital

If they build the stadium over the rail lines seems like it would make a lot of sense to build a western entry to the train station. I support the idea, but wonder if it has already been made too difficult by the western extension of the Convention Centre? The tracks under the Montefiore Road bridg...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

Currently, trains that would need two locomotives on other routes need three locomotives to climb the hills. Allowing double stacking on the existing route doesn't change the fact the route needs more locomotives than a flatter route. Passenger trains have a higher power to weight ratio, so this is ...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

How about a bus and high occupancy vehicle lane during peak hour on the SE freeway? Backed up with surveillance cameras this would decongest the freeway and benefit people willing to use public transport. We could have a high speed bus. There's a proposal in this thread to put an O-Bahn on the SE f...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

Adelaide City Council should be chosen by all South Australians, not only the few people living in the CBD and businesses. It's too important to leave these decisions that affect the whole city to a small group of people.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

On a side note, looking carefully through the budget papers $10 million has been allocated in the next two financial years to “retrofit energy storage and recovery systems to diesel rail cars to reduce fuel consumption and improve performance” ( p58 of the Budget Measures Statement). That would mea...

Not sure if this might warrant it's own thread, but this new mixed use Retirement Village at Modbury ("Encore Apartments") is nearing completion. As well as 77 apartments, garden areas and car parking, there will be a Child Care Centre and a Cafe on the Ground Floor facing the street. Thi...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

I am guessing this may have something to do with it... Adelaide City Council will start selling a secret list of assets as it faces operating losses of almost $100m in four years. https://www.adelaidenow.com.au/messenger/city/adelaide-city-council-to-sell-assets-including-beach-volleyball-court-and...

I'm excited about the height, but really, it doesn't look like anything special.

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Contracts, Service & Policy

Even with the fare rises, it's still cheap compared to other Australian cities. Good to hear about the new validators, can you pay using NFC on your phone? This guy made a video about the fares in Adelaide. He has a good point about how the peak and interpeak fare times. Why it's peak on Saturday, b...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

We really cannot know how many lanes are required until we optimise what we have. There's plenty of cities which move far more people than Adelaide by PT without needing two lanes each way to achieve it. Now, obviously, if bus operation in Grenfell is optimised and there's still a problem, then mor...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

There's plenty of capacity in a single bus lane if buses aren't stopping. If you leave a 10 second gap between buses, then you can have 600 buses per hour. One lane each way is 1200 per hour, which is enough for Grenfell-Currie St. The problem is when buses stop at a stop, hold up traffic for 30 sec...

And no, they wouldn't use a single TBM and put both sets of tracks in a single tunnel. Which is actually being used in the under-construction Barelona metro line 9. Their TBM is 11.95 m in diameter and they will use small metro trains which are 2.71 m wide, while Adelaide metro trains are 3.2 m wid...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Contracts, Service & Policy

I read on the Melbourne Transit blog that the SA bus reforms would have increased the number of people living close to Go Zones from 500,000 to 700,000......how is that bad... Also the bus numbering system would be much simpler and clearer......how is that bad..... Yes there were cuts to services o...

Hopefully they use this new motorway for buses too. Buses from around Happy Valley could be express into the city. Do we know anything about public transport that will use the motorway?

Re: Cheap Airport O-Bahn

The idea of just diverting water to drains in nearby streets suggests you haven't seen just how much water flows through that creek when it gets flowing after heavy rain. That's one suggestion out of several. At present you are talking about a 1-in-a-100 year flood situation as you'll probably know...
